Construction Details
At first glance, this boat may look delicate in appearance, however, this is actually a very sturdy boat with a solid frame and skin. Before the skin is applied, the entire frame of the boat is sealed in marine epoxy and spar varnish, a traditional finish for boats. In other words, the wood is well-sealed against both water and UV damage. The skin is Dacron, a polyester fabric, that we covered in a rubberized coating below the water-line for abrasion and puncture-resistance. After that, we painted the boat-bottom for increased protection, as well as improved appearance. In addition, the entire outside is coated with spar varnish for additional protection.
Materials
The frame is constructed out of white oak ribs and fir stringers, inwales, gunwales, and rub rails. The thwart, thwart gussets, cutwaters, and seat slates are made of white oak. The breast hooks are primarily white oak, with purple heart, beech, and sapele accents. The rub rails feature purple heart dowels.
